another school vent

Let's just say that you pay nearly $700 a month for your kids to go to school. You don't love the school, but it meets basic learning requirements by the state and you feel kind of stuck since it was your stupid idea to send them there in the first place when you uprooted their life and moved and now you'd have guilt eating away at your festering soul if you made them change schools again.

Instead of selling yummy pizzas and pies or fabulously trashy magazine subscriptions as fundraisers, this school takes the more "practical" approach- socks and trash bags. I am not shitting you- our fundraisers this year were socks and trash bags!
The socks were ankle socks- originally thought to be 'out of uniform'. You're assured by the principal that since they were fundraiser socks- they were allowed. Let's say that your kids receive minor mark dress code violations for these socks!

When you are trying to load up a heavy box of trash bags that you sold, but the woman behind you in the parking lot has parked too close to open your trunk and you have no choice but to inch your car up a little, but inadvertently go in reverse and hit her car instead!

Then let's say that the report cards come home with the kids in the small manilla envelopes - not the large one- the small one!

... with a little warning for you to put a stamp on the envelope so they can be mailed at the end of the year or you will not get the report cards.

Let's just say that last year, out of principle of $1.26 for stamps vs. $6700 in tuition, you did not stamp these envelopes and your kids did not get their grades until 2 weeks before summer break was over when you went to the school and begged for them- they weren't bluffing.

Let's just say that this year, you're trying to not make your kids 'those kids with the loser mom that doesn't stamp the envelopes' and you went out of your way to the post office to buy actual stamps since you don't have them in your possession anymore since-oh, I don't know- EVERYTHING IS DONE ONLINE NOW!

So let's say this morning all of these envelopes are sitting on your desk with a note stating that they need, yet, ANOTHER stamp on them!

Hypothetically speaking, of course, how long does it take before you would stop shaking with anger and feeling like your head will explode?

You are totally freaking me out about sending my kids to Catholic school. I had kind of thought that might be the route we would take, but hearing your crazy stories now I'm not so sure. I would so be the stamp boycotting mom. That is just RIDICULOUS!!!!

Tena, did your Snuggie arrive? Will you let me know so I can contact the seller if it didn't?

Sounds like you need a hug, a Xanax and a nice martini.

That's harsh! Catholic school is serious business...and by serious, they force their parents to work BINGO nights...that would suck for me, I love PLAYING ...HUGS

My kid's public school is about this bad...except without the tuition. The dress code is ridiculous and the fund raisers? Three words: Plastic. Pizza. Cutters.

$700 a month?!

Public school all the way, dude...they just send the report cards home with the kids. No stamps required.

because I said so said...

you poor thing....based on your stories I'm glad there are no good Catholic schools in my area

have you talked to the kids about how they would feel about changing schools...they may surprise you

***my word verification is WHINED...how appropriate

Holy crap, have they never heard of posting grades on the website in addition to sending them home in backpacks? You can then sign and send it back to school in the backpack. Saves money, time, paper (tell them they need to go green!).

When my sons were in K and 1st grade, my ex decided he wanted them to go to Catholic school. Mind you, he cheated on me, hasn't been to church in 25 years and is a total douchebag. But he's got a load of money and wanted his kids to go to this particular school, 30 min from my house. I wasn't a fan, and not because I'm Protestant, because the school was small, the parents had sticks up their proverbial asses and the teacher kept saying to me, "It would be good if you would convert". Ah--a story for my blog one day.

In the end they spent two years there. I spent more money on fundraisers (what the heck with the garbage bags, Tena??), donations, and other out of pocket expenses for a school that we were already paying way too much for.

Anyway....hope your head doesn't explode........

Lame! I am so not looking forward to the "school years" and my kids is probably going to go to public school. Do your kids like this school?

Thank you for making me love my Catholic school so much..... if only you lived here and our kids could go to school together!!!

Don't you just love the UNcommon sense that the "powers that be" have?? Just keep thinking....what goes around comes around. That's kept me from going ballistic a few times in life.

(oh-oh...I just had a thought. If you wish bad karma on the head of a Catholic school, does that guarantee you a special place in hell? Just wondering!)

You've lasted longer already than I would have. It drives me up the wall to feel like I'm wasting money and I'm sorry but this place sounds like a waste of money.

Have you heard of www.fmylife.com? (The 'F' standing for fuck) People go to this site and tell all their woes...

You have to provide the stamps?? I've never heard of that before. So, why couldn't they just save the stamps and have you pick it up when you drop or pick up the kids? I agree...go green.

Maybe the kids will surprise you with their answers.

I'd get 41 one cent stamps...

Whoa. That's a lot of money.

I got one better. I moved. I changed my address with the school. I didn't turn in the required "notorized lease" (yeah kiss my ass). They withheld Ash's report card. I went to get it, and they refused. YET I received a letter to my new address yesterday saying... "We were notified you moved. (BY ME!) and you have mail being retained in the office here, until the required forms and documents are submitted." OH! BUT you can send THAT to my new address.

Ummm.....BUY YOUR OWN STAMPS!!?!??!?!?

On top of, oh, I don't know, EVERYTHING ELSE, this would set me off. But I am irrational like that:)

Christy said...

Maybe it's me, but I would think that if you're paying for your kids to go to school there, they could probably afford to shell out a couple of stamps...just saying. Jeesh

Oh............my.........

Socks?!?!? Really??

Jill said...

Seriously? For that much money and you also had to purchase stamps? I'd be pissed...

Mrs4444 said...

That is unbelievable. BTW, you can buy stamps on-line now...heehee

Tonya Staab said...

Socks and garbage bags? Are you kidding? Although seeing as everyone complains about the lame fundraisers that most schools have, at least these are kinda practical.

Oh and buy your own stamps. What next.
